Pat’s Place: from hurt to hope
Holly and I wanted to share something a little different with you this month. Life and ministry here in Peru are going well. We’ve been welcoming new families into the house, while also celebrating as others graduate and move forward. Saying goodbye is always bittersweet—our hearts ache as they leave, yet we rejoice knowing they are stepping into a new season.
The most beautiful part is seeing them leave with a renewed life in Christ. They walk out knowing they are beloved daughters of God, and with the assurance that their children are safe, secure, and cared for.
Below, you’ll find an incredible testimony from one such mother—a story that captures the very heart of what God is doing here.
Testimony from Pat’s Place
“My name isn’t important, because my story could be the story of so many women. For years, I lived in fear. The bruises on my skin faded, but the ones on my heart only grew deeper. I believed the lies—that I was worthless, that I would never be free, that my children and I had no future.
The night I left, I carried only a bag of clothes and my two little ones, not knowing where we would go. That’s when someone told me about Pat’s Place. I was terrified to trust again, but when I walked through the door, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time—safety.
At Pat’s Place, I found more than shelter. I found love. The women there didn’t look at me with pity; they looked at me with hope. They prayed with me when I couldn’t pray for myself. They reminded me that Jesus hadn’t abandoned me, even when I felt forgotten.
Little by little, God began to heal the broken pieces of my life. My children started to laugh again. They slept through the night without fear. They had a safe yard to play in, warm meals to eat, and people who spoke life over them instead of pain.
One night during Bible study, I heard the words from Isaiah 61: “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted… to comfort all who mourn… to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.” For the first time, I believed those words were for me.
Today, I am not the same woman who walked through the doors of Pat’s Place. I am a daughter of the King. I am free. My children know joy, and together we are building a new life filled with peace, not fear.
Pat’s Place didn’t just give me a roof over my head—it gave me the courage to believe again, the strength to stand, and the hope of a future in Jesus.
If you are hurting, if you feel lost, know this: there is hope. I found mine at Pat’s Place, and through Jesus, you can too.”
“Sing, heavens! Shout for joy, earth! Let the mountains burst into song! The Lord will comfort His people; He will have pity on His suffering people.” Isaiah 49:13
